Keep on going...
One foot in front of the other
Do you ever think about your life choices? Am I where I thought I would be at 50 years old? I always thought I would be running a small restaurant in the West End of Glasgow. Somewhere I would be really proud of. I would step out onto the street and look at my bustling restaurant full of happy customers and be super proud!
Life somehow took a different turn.
I don’t have a bustling restaurant in Glasgow but I am super proud of my daughter Daisy and the human she is. She has dealt with a lot the past year and keeps putting one foot in front of the other. She takes a big breath, says ‘what now?!’. Smiles, then carries on. I hope I have led by example.
She was home from University for the weekend so we hacked the ponies out every day, laughed a lot, cried a few tears and danced on the dining room table. Happiness.
For me, if life is getting me down then I take the biggest breath I have taken all day, do a shoulder shimmy, breathe out then smile. Keep looking forward and keep feeling the feelings. It is OK to feel happy, sad, angry etc. Be real and let it out. Talk. There is nothing worse than locking it up and pretending that life is OK when it doesn’t feel like that.
I have learned that horses want us to be fully present and in the moment when I am with them. I also have to be truly authentic as they know if I am faking it! This is a great way to remember to be a genuine and authentic person in life. Bring my true self to the table wherever I am.
I might still run my restaurant in Glasgow one day but for now I am happy on the farm bumbling along. I can cook up a feast for friends every now and then instead of a restaurant full of customers which is a lot less pressure!
Thank you for reading to the end x

They want us to be genuine and authentic…what a deeply true statement about our horses! They see through us so easily. Ever since I was a young girl I would say that the place I could feel most at peace was on a horse. And your statement just gave me the rationale behind what I always felt in my heart. Thank you!!
There's always time! That's what I keep telling myself. My mum went to university for the first time in her mid 50s and now she's working as a nurse which she loves, and she's almost 70. She's inspired me to know that there will always be other careers/interests/hobbies/twists and turns in life.
