Having a soul sister who ‘gets me’ and loves me unconditionally is one of the greatest gifts of my life.
And side by side with that is my relationship with my soul dog. He enhances my life immeasurably. He’s 9 now (nearly 70 in human years) and we are stepping into old age together (I’m 65). Living by the sea has been a lifelong dream, achieved 5 years ago. I feel so blessed in so many ways.
Is it unadulterated bliss? No, but I have also come to accept that we can’t have everything in life.
I know I have much more than the vast majority of people on this planet. Thank you for writing this and allowing me to reflect on the things that bring me joy. I love your coos! xx

Walking out in the back pastures and maple woods of our farm, accompanied by one of my Border Collies, is good for my soul! I also love standing on the shore of the ‘big water’, which for us means one of the Great Lakes. They aren’t as big as an ocean and the water is fresh, not salty but they feel like the sea, in their endless horizon and expanse of water. My soul place is on the sandy shore of Lake Huron, looking out at Chantry Island Lighthouse, near the small town of Southampton, in Ontario. I have a wonderful Aunt who lives there, now 101 years old, and she has been like a second mother to me, for years. That is my home and soul place.

It is like in your post about counting the joys. I see our river and pond every day but sometimes I look up and really see the light on the water and the geese 💕
I am right by the sea in Fife and I walked part of the coastal path with my brother this week. I have to remind myself not to take it for granted. It’s our dog’s favourite place - a beach run and a swim 🐾
That’s such a beautiful part of the work to live. I was really taken aback by St Monans as I felt like I was in a novel! No wonder the coastal path is your dog’s favourite place too. It is ideal for a dog to run and swim. There is something about that huge expanse of sky and sea 💕
